Husky, my 'Grammy' was from Bournemouth, although she was born in Burma. I got to visit England and stay in Bournemouth when I was a kid. Loved the park at the bottom of the hill with really sharp RC boats!! Thought it was cool that we pumped shillings into a power meter at our flat! Really enjoyed your town/city.

I'd say the nack for the 550 is 1)fully V+ battery, 2)PC to prime with good gas, 3)90-100% enrichment, 4)Kind words and press button!

It doesn't take a lot of money. (I won't discuss my black bike in this context.)

However, my '81 was recommissioned "on a shoestring" using only salvage parts to replace those that were missing or beyond hope; and new parts where necessary (except maybe for the seat but I consider that necessary too.)

When I got it, I bought it from beside a rural road where it was sitting in front of the POs house covered in snow. It had spent the previous 4 years outside, in Michigan winters and all they bring, covered only by a HEAVY canvas construction tarp that scratched the bejeezus out of the original paint.

I didn't repaint it. I buffed it out, about 95% anyway.

The engine and all of the covers were grey, mottled and corroded. The flashers were broken, the seat torn, and it had a horribly rusty 4-1 Kerker with no baffle on it. The goofy fairing was missing its windshield. Mice had built a nest in the airbox.

It needed love. And a LOT more effort and time than money, honest. The biggest outlay was for the exhaust, and that came off eBay a couple of bits at a time. A LOT of parts came off eBay, one bit at a time.

It was worth all the work:

Proper Johnny Cash job there right?

Keep the faith husky, I'm in the UK too & feel your pain on the parts availability. At least you have a more common model, I've got a 750E-II with wrong carbs, and nobody's ever even heard of it!!!
