Hi. I am having trouble starting my XJ. It turns over just fine but won't start. I do have a spark plug that isn't giving off any spark but should that effect it? Also could it be a stator problem?

A bad stator will not keep the bike from starting, but will keep the battery from charging. Set the idea of a bad stator aside for now.

    Which plug isn't throwing sparks?

What is the battery voltage when you thumb the starter, and what is the battery voltage at rest?

So the left side right spark plug is the one not working. I used jumper cables on the battery for a full charged start.

Cylinders are numbered 1-4, left to right, while sitting on the bike. Far left is cylinder #1. Far right is cylinder #4.
Please clarify which is not working.

Swap the plug leads between #2 and #3. Does the problem stay with the plug, or with the plug wire?
