so for the last 2 years this site has been amazing in helping me restore my 85xj700 (on sale in the on sale area) but alas I am upgrading to a 96 xv750 virago anyone know of a site like this one that may help in that area and thanks to all of you that saved me tons of money by me doing it myself (with your help) instead of paying someone else to do it for me

Just want to make sure you know about the starter design flaw on Viragos.
That would save you tons of aggravation if you didn't buy it.

i wouldnt worry about the starter on the virago . 86 and later dont have that nasty design i have an 87 and 91 1 had a electrical problem and i have probbibly cranked it half way around the world im not kidding . i replaced the starter on the other because the guy i bought it from put the cams in the wrong heads and overheated the starter and burned it up.
they are nice bikes but alout different then the xj guess its what kind of riding you do. im fortunate enough to have both.

No personal experience with a virago so take this with a grain of salt. From what I've heard from other people, don't know if that would really be an upgrade...

I kinda look at it this way the virago is 11 years newer/has been garage kept looks and runs like new/and a little more power anyway getting it for 1500 so not to bad a deal in my book the xj has been a great ride but is getting a little aged so repairs will be getting harder and harder for me to finance but again it is up for grabs it has been taken care of and will treat someone else just as good
by the way skillet since you have ridden one any major diff you may be able to think of example the way it rides, gas mileage, any thing you can think of would be appreciated
    thanks

Hellvis, I had an '82 xv750 and loved it. Accelerated like the Space Shuttle but never passed by a gas station. I bought it from my sisters brother in law who is a machinist and part time motorcycle racer. He had drilled out the jets in the carb and it really put out the power! It ran beautifully but you had to dive into a gas station by 95 miles on the tank or you would be pushing it. Mine was a solid gray colored tank and side covers not the pretty new fancy multi-colored factory paint jobs.

Did I like it? Oh yeah!
Did I like the way it handled? Oh yeah! It was long and lean and low to the ground.
Would I ever want another one? Oh yeah!

It was a gas to ride and a joy to look at! Love those external oil lines!

Upgrading to a virago from an '85 XJ700 ...that's a matter of opinion

I guess it IS 10 years younger
I wonder if I can upgrade my wife?

I have a 85 xj700 as well and I like the bike but I think a vtwin looks better. I've seen some nice bobbed Virago's.
