IF I have stumbled past the answer already here codified, my only excuse is that it seems I spend all my days these daze running in place like a raped-ape, eat, sleep, repeat.

Long prelude to this...,.she (xj650 Maxim,1981 vintage) is beginning to run a little rough. Want to nip it in the bud. Does one do the timing (i.e. cam chain)/valve clearance first and then sync carbs, or versa-vicea?

All you Dudes on this site (Yeah, I'm pointing at you!) are a priceless resource. Reading a single answer to even a mundane question is tantamount to sitting in a graduate level class in Morotcycle-ology. Thank you. Whatever you are drinking - do NOT run out of it...;-)

Welcome to the forum JJ. Valve clearances first then carburettors. Motorcycle-ology I like that. :D
