I’m about to bleed my rebuilt MC and caliper. What is the fill amount for the brake fluid? To the top of the site glass?

Also - opened the brake fluid container over a week ago to lube the parts for assembly. Should it still be good? I know it recommends new fluid out of a sealed container.

The brake fluid will still be OK to use as long as the humidity where you are hasn't been really high (insert PNW joke here), and you had the lid on the container. The caution is to make sure you don't use a half-full bottle of brake fluid that's been sitting around for a year.

Fill to the top of the sight glass.

Does it help to open the bleed screw when adding new fluid so that it fills the line quickly, then closing and continue filling until reaching the top of the glass?

Put a pan under the caliper, open the bleeder, tie the brake lever to the bar so the lever stays pulled, fill the master cylinder and wait overnight. The lines will fill, most of the air will come out, and you can bleed the remaining air in the usual fashion.

drake fluid has a shelf life of 2 years after opening because it will absorbb water through the plastic container
